System memory holds the instructions that are executed by the processor. Your system contains 16 memory sockets organized into 8 channels per processor.

Removing a memory module Prerequisites 1. Follow the safety guidelines listed in the Safety instructions on page 25. 2. Follow the procedure listed in the Before working inside your system on page 26. Remove the air shroud. WARNING: The memory modules are hot to touch for some time after the system has been powered off. Allow the memory modules to cool before handling them.

Remove the air shroud. Steps 1. Locate the appropriate memory module socket. CAUTION: Handle each memory module only by the card edges, ensuring not to touch the middle of the memory module or metallic contacts.
3. To verify if the memory module has been installed properly, press F2 and navigate to System Setup Main Menu > System BIOS > Memory Settings. In the Memory Settings screen, the System Memory Size must reflect the updated capacity of the installed memory.
