POST error messages

The following table provides an abbreviated list of the error messages that might
appear during POST. See the Hardware Maintenance Manual and Troubleshooting
Guide on the IBM xSeries Documentation CD for more information about the POST
error messages.

Failed comparing CMOS memory size against actual
Memory size mismatch occurred
Critical SMBUS error occurred (I2C Bus error)

Suggested action
Replace the battery or call for service.
v Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program; then, exit, saving
the configuration settings.
v Make sure that optional devices are turned on and installed
correctly.
Set the date and time.
Make sure that DIMMs are fully seated and installed correctly.
Make sure that DIMMs are supported by the server and that they
are installed correctly.
Make sure that the keyboard cable is connected and that nothing
is resting on the keyboard keys.
Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program and make sure that
the parallel port setting is correct.
Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program and make sure that
the IRQ and I/O port assignments needed by the serial port are
available.
Make sure that microprocessor x is installed correctly. If the
problem remains, replace microprocessor x.
Run the Configuration/Setup Utility program and make sure that
the resources needed by the PCI adapter are available.
Download and install the latest level of BIOS code.
Install an operating system.
