PC Management

DMI 1.1 and DMI 2.0

The TopTools 3.0 management server and TopTools 2.5 console
software can manage both DMI 1.1 and DMI 2.0 HP PCs. For more
information on the difference between DMI 1.1 and DMI 2.0,
refer to
"Remotely Managing DMI 1.1 PCs" on page 66
and
refer to "Remotely
Managing DMI 2.0 PCs" on page
68.

Remotely Managing DMI 1.1 PCs

Inside DMI 1.1, communications between HP clients and the
management console are made through an indirect path. DMI data
accessing or leaving the DMI client goes through the CLIIP32 agent. On
the OpenView side (both 16 and 32-bit environments), DMI data
crosses the Remote DMI agent (RDMI). RDMI is responsible for
sending data to the correct CLIIP32 agents spread over the network.
So, every GET, SET and IND command crosses the network through
CLIIP32 and RDMI.
