Fast Programmed I/O
Modes
Function
Configures individual EIDE drives. For most
EIDE drives, you should select the Auto Con-
figured option, unless you are using a hard-disk
drive that does not support the autodetect fea-
ture. In this case, select User Definable and
enter the appropriate values in the Cylinders,
Heads, Sectors, and Maximum Capacity fields.
For a non-IDE drive, set this category to
Disabled.
Enables or disables the use of programmed I/O,
which can improve the performance of a hard-
disk drive. If you select Auto Detected (the
default), the system BIOS uses the fastest pro-
grammed I/O protocol supported. If you select
Disabled, programmed I/O is turned off.
