  • Page 7: Nature Of The Equipment

1.2 Nature of the equipment The Uf 821 is an ultrasonic flow meter used to measure flows using the transit time difference method. The measurement can be taken using an installation with up to 4 ultrasonic measurement chords. (One chord designates the acoustic path between two probes, each alternating between emitting and receiving.
  • Page 8: Power Supply

1.7 Communication The Uf 821 has a serial link which can be wired using RS232 or RS485 mode, as well as a USB port. For this communication interface, the standard protocol chosen is the Slave JBUS (MODBUS). This enables the unit to be connected to an instrumentation and control system or to a computer.
  • Page 9: Inputs/Outputs

The probes (inputs) on the 4-20 mA loop must be powered from an external power supply. 1.9 Ultrasound chords The Uf 821 enables the control of a maximum of 4 ultrasonic chords, or 8 probes. 8 cable glands are provided to pass the probe cables through.

Make fixing holes in the wall which should be of sufficiently solid construction. First, attach the wall plate supplied with the unit. The Uf 821 is then mounted on this plate, using the notches provided. Finally, lock the unit vertically against the lower return on the wall plate, using the M4 screw supplied.
  • Page 20: Using The Cabinet

120 mm of clear space must be left below the glands to allow for connecting the cables. 3.3 Using the cabinet The Uf 821 enclosure was designed for installation on a wall only, where wiring operations are simpler, and following the order of work given below: Start by fixing the wall mounting plate.
  • Page 21: Using The Lid Stay

Before removing the lid, it is essential that the Uf 821 is disconnected from the power and that the ribbon cable is also disconnected (ref (A) in the left hand illustration). The ribbon cable must also be re- connected with the power off.
  • Page 22: Wiring Instructions

For the ground connection, it is recommended to use a copper braid. When choosing the braid, it is important to adhere to the following rule: Length / Width < 3. At the end of the Uf 821 ground connection contact there should be an M6 stud bolt fitted with appropriate washers and nuts. In all cases, the section of the conductor used must be greater or equal to that of the device's power supply cable conductors (see §3.8.1).
