Introduction to Honeywell 6500 Dolphin Handheld

How to use Honeywell 6500
o Turn on: Press (not hold) blue button at bottom of keypad, press "Z" key to the right of it (has the
power symbol next to it)
o Turn off: Hold (not press) blue button and simultaneously hold down the "Z" key until handheld
turns off
o Reset: Use stylus to press down on the small, white reset button (to the left of the "SCAN" button)
to perform a Warm Reboot (do not hold down reset button!)
o Wake handheld up from sleep: Press any key (I usually press the "SCAN" button since it's the largest)
o Touchscreen: Use the stylus > better than your fingers
o Battery life and charging:

applications

Store stylus on one of the two stylus sleeves (attached to the wrist strap) on the back of the
handheld
How to read battery indicator: Top right of the screen, next to the time.
4 bars = full battery; 1 bar = low battery
Electric plug = handheld needs to be charged immediately
To charge handhelds, place in docking station and make sure the red light at the top of the
handheld turns on. Once charging is done, red light will turn into a green light.
Make sure handhelds are placed in their docks at the end of each workday or whenever not
in use.
Numbers, punctuation, and controls (backspace, space, shift, tab, etc.) are in white on the
top half of the keypad
Letters and symbols are in black on the bottom half of the keypad
Press the "" (Windows button) on the screen or "Blue button" + "U" on the keypad to
bring up the handheld's Start Menu
Scroll down menu to find the "Notes" application, click on it to open
Click "" (New document button) on the bottom of the screen to bring up blank document
Type out your full name to get used to typing on the handheld's keypad
Type out "12881‐5G" as order fulfillment will sometimes require manual entry of item
numbers:
To access hyphen "‐", press, not hold, blue button at the bottom then "F" on keypad
Once you're done practicing, click "OK" at bottom right of screen, bring up your file (should
say "Note1 or Note#", click on your filename and hold down until a menu pops up. Click
delete to delete your practice note, click "Yes" on popup to confirm". Exit Notes by clicking
the "X" in the bottom right of the screen.
Press the "" (Windows button) on the screen or "Blue button" + "U" on the keypad to
bring up the handheld's Start Menu
Find the "Demos" folder, click on it to open
Select "Scan Demo"
Press "SCAN" button on keypad to trigger the laser‐scanner, you should see a cross‐hairs,
this is the center of the laser‐scanner
