3. When the engine is cold, move the choke lever to
the Choke position (Figure 21). Do not use the
choke when the engine is warm.

4. Hold the blade control bar against the handle and
pull the recoil starter (Figure 22).
Note: If the choke is engaged, it will automatically
turn off about 3 seconds after the blade control bar
is held against the handle.
Note: Pull the recoil start handle lightly until you
feel resistance, then pull it briskly.

5. If the machine does not start in 1 or 2 pulls, repeat
steps 3 and 4.
Note: If the machine still does not start, contact an
Authorized Service Dealer.
Stopping the Engine
Service Interval: Before each use or daily
To stop the engine, release the blade control bar
(Figure 23).
Important: When you release the blade control
bar, both the engine and blade should stop within
3 seconds. If they do not stop properly, stop
using the machine immediately and contact an
Authorized Service Dealer.

1. To operate the self-propel drive, squeeze the
self-propel drive bar against the handle and hold
it (Figure 24).
