How do I program memory channels in my IC-706MKII?
This programming method uses the radio front panel. Before you program a memory
channel, you'll need to know the following:
• Desired operating frequency
• Offset direction for repeater operation (if applicable)
• Subaudible tone frequency for repeater operation (if applicable)
Verify Duplex Settings
1. With the radio off, hold down the LOCK key and then press the POWER key to
enter the initial set mode. Release both keys after the radio turns on.
2. Press BAND▲ or BAND▼ to select the menu options. Ensure that 15 QUICK
SPLIT is on. Ensure that the proper offset under 17 DUP OFFSET is set. For
example: if you repeater has a -.600 MHz offset for the TX frequency, you would set
17 DUP OFFSET to -.600.
3. Press POWER to turn the radio off and exit the set mode. Press POWER again to
turn the radio back on.
Entering Frequency, Offset, and Tone
1. Press DISPLAY to select the M menu list. Press MENU to scroll and select M2.
2. Press F-3 (V/M) until you have selected VFO mode. VFO A or VFO B appears on
the display; either mode will work. If the radio displays VFO B, press the MENU key
to select the M1 menu and then the F-2 (A/B) key to select VFO A.
3. Press BAND▲ or BAND▼ to select the desired band.
4. Rotate the tuning dial to select the desired frequency. Press MODE to select FM
mode (displayed at the top).
5. To set your offset or duplex (for repeater operation), Press MENU and scroll
through the menus until you have selected the M1 menu.
6. Press the F-1 (SPL) key for 2 seconds to activate the quick split feature. SPL will
appear at the top right of the screen and the radio will beep twice. The quick split is
now set to the offset you selected in step 2 of Verify Duplex Settings (17 DUP
OFFSET). If needed, you can change the TX frequency by pressing and holding the
F-3 (XFC) key and adjusting with the tuning dial. The offset appears in the lower
part of the display.
Note: If you are programming a simplex frequency or repeater frequency that does
not require a sub-audible tone, skip to Saving Settings in a Memory Channel.
7. If the repeater requires a sub-audible tone, Press the MENU key to select the M1
menu.
8. Press the F-2 key to select VFO B.
