Installing the Batteries
- Open the battery compartment lid at the rear of the radio.
- Insert two R6 (size AA) batteries with the and marks aligned correctly.
- Close the battery compartment lid.

Replacing the batteries
Change the batteries when the sound becomes weak or distorted. Remove both of the old batteries and insert new ones.
Notes on batteries
- Do not charge the dry batteries.
- Do not carry the dry batteries with coins or othermetallic objects. It can generate heat if the positive and negative terminals of the batteries are accidentally contacted by a metallic object.
- Do not use different types of batteries at the sametime.
- When you replace the batteries, replace all with newones.
- When you are not going to use the unit for a longtime, remove the batteries to avoid damage from battery leakage and corrosion.
If the battery compartment lid comes off
The battery compartment lid is designed to come off when opened with excessive force. To put it back on, see the illustration.
- Insert the right hook of the lid into the right hole in the unit.
- Hang the left hook on the left part of the compartment where the lid fits.
- Slide the left hook towards the left hole in the unit.
Operating the Radio
* There is a tactile dot beside Power switch/VOL to show the direction to turn on the power and turn up the volume
- Turn the Power switch/VOL (volume) control to turn on the power and adjust the volume.
When you have finished listening, turn the control down to turn off the power. - Set the BAND selector to select FM or AM.
- Turn the TUNING control to select a station.
The TUNE indicator lights when a station is received.
To turn off the radio
Turn the Power switch/VOL (volume) control downwards to OFF until a click is heard.
To listen with an earphone
Connect the optional earphone to the jack.
The speaker does not emit sound when an earphone is connected
Improving the Reception
FM: Extend the telescopic antenna and adjust its length and angle for the best reception.
AM: Rotate the unit horizontally for op reception. A ferrite bar antenna is built into the unit
Note
- Adjust the angle of the antenna byholding the bottom of it. The antenna can be damaged when you move the antenna with excessive force.
- Do not rotate the telescopic antenna.
Precautions
- Operate the unit only on 3 V DC.
- The nameplate indicating operating voltage, etc. islocated on the rear exterior.
- Avoid exposure to temperature extremes, directsunlight, moisture, sand, dust or mechanical shock. Never leave in a car parked under the sun.
- In vehicles or buildings, radio reception may bedifficult or noisy. Try listening near a window.
- Since a strong magnet is used for the speaker, keeppersonal credit cards using magnetic coding or spring-wound watches away from the unit to prevent possible damage from the magnet.
- When the casing becomes soiled, clean it with a softdry cloth moistened with mild detergent solution. Never use abrasive cleansers or chemical solvents, as they may deform the casing.
