    General Precautions TOSHIBA computers are designed to optimize safety, minimize strain and withstand the rigors of portability. However, certain precautions should be observed to further reduce the risk of personal injury or damage to the computer.

To keep your computer in prime operating condition, protect your work area from: Dust, moisture, and direct sunlight.     Right-click Click the right Touch Pad control button once. Right click the mouse once. Press and hold on the touch screen (only for touch screen models). Double-click Tap the Touch Pad or click the left Touch Pad control button twice. Left click the mouse twice.

    Typical Start screen tiles are the Desktop tile and Mail tile, as well as tiles representing all other applications downloaded to your system. If the computer enters Sleep Mode while a network application is active, the application might not be restored when the computer is next turned on and the system returns from Sleep Mode.
  • Page 29 Benefits of Sleep Mode The Sleep Mode feature provides the following benefits: Restores the previous working environment more rapidly than the Hibernation Mode feature. Saves power by shutting down the system when the computer receives no input or hardware access for the time period set by the System Sleep Mode feature.

    Power indicator The Power indicator glows white when the computer is turned on. However, if you turn the computer off into Sleep Mode, this indicator will blink white.     Chapter 4 Operating Basics This chapter describes the basic operations of your computer, and highlights the precautions that should be taken when using it. Using the Touch Screen Some models are equipped with a touch screen. You can use your finger to manipulate icons, buttons, menu items, the onscreen keyboard, and other items on the touch screen.

    When installing or removing a memory module, you must ensure that you do not touch any other internal areas of the computer. Use only memory modules approved by TOSHIBA. Do not try to install or remove a memory module under the following conditions.
  • Page 73 Additional memory module is a precision electronic component that may be fatally damaged by static electricity. Since the human body can carry static electricity, it is important that you discharge yourself before touching or installing any additional memory modules. To discharge your body’s static electricity, simply touch any metal close to you with bare hands.

    Grasp the module by its edges and remove it from the computer. If you use the computer for a long time, the memory modules and the circuits locating close to the memory modules will become hot. In this case, let them cool to room temperature before you replace them. Or you will get burnt if you touch any of them.

If you reformat a memory card, be sure to reformat it with a device such as digital camera or digital audio player that uses the memory cards, not with the format command provided within Windows.
