Memory Replacement Procedures

Removing the Cisco 4500-M and Cisco 4700 Boot Helper Flash Memory SIMM

The boot helper image (Rxboot image) is stored in Flash memory on the Cisco 4500-M and
Cisco 4700. Take the following steps to replace the 4-MB SIMM with an 8–MB or 16-MB SIMM.

Removing the Boot Helper Flash Memory SIMM
Pull the tabs away from
each other with your
thumbs, bracing your
forefingers against the
posts. Raise the SIMM
to a vertical position.
System-code SIMM card
Put on an ESD-preventive wrist strap and ensure that it makes good contact with your skin.
Connect the equipment end of the wrist strap to the metal back plate of the chassis, avoiding
contact with the connectors.
On the lower right corner of the Cisco 4500-M and Cisco 4700 motherboard, locate the
SIMM card socket marked RxBoot Flash memory. (See Figure 5-6.)
Handle SIMMs by the card edges only. SIMMs are ESD-sensitive components and can be
