    1 Warnings and Precautions To use the device properly and safely, read these warnings and precautions carefully and strictly observe them during operation. Unless otherwise specified, the term "device" refers to the device and its accessories. Basic Requirements During storage, transportation, and operation of the device, keep it dry and prevent it from colliding with other objects.
  • Page 7 Precautions for Using Wireless Devices When using the device, ensure that the antenna of the device is at least 20 cm away from all persons. When using the handset of the device, however, you can use it close to your body. Do not use the device where using wireless devices is prohibited or may cause interference or danger.
  • Page 8 The battery can be charged and discharged hundreds of times before it eventually wears out. When the standby time and the talk time are shorter than the normal time, replace the battery. Use the AC power supply defined in the specifications of the charger. An improper power voltage may cause a fire or a malfunction of the charger.

    Do not trample, pull, or overbend any cable. Otherwise, the cable may get damaged, causing malfunction of the device. Before cleaning the device, stop using it, power it off, and then remove all the cables connected to it. Use a clean, soft, and dry cloth to clean the device shell. Do not use any cleaning agent or spray to clean the device shell.

    2 Getting to Know the HG536a 2.1 Overview HUAWEI HG536a Home Gateway (hereinafter referred to as the HG536a) is a type of Asymmetrical Digital Subscriber Line (ADSL) terminal, providing the DECT module which supports the handset (1.8 or 1.9 GHz).

    Indicator Status Description A wireless connection is set up between the HG536a and a wireless client through the WPS function. This state lasts 300s. Blinking The HG536a is attempting to set up a wireless connection with a wireless client (such as a PC on which a wireless network adapter is installed) through the WPS function.

    3 Installing the HG536a 3.1 Connecting the Cables to the Host The HG536a provide the DECT module which supports the handset. You can make the calls by using the handset, no need to connect another telephone. Besides, you can also connect another telephone to make the calls if you need.

    To install the battery, do as follows: Step 1 Slide the battery cover down to remove it. Step 2 Insert the battery into the battery compartment. Step 3 Plug the battery connector into the receptacle in the battery compartment. Step 4 Slide the cover up until it snaps in place.
  • Page 18 Before using the handset for the first time, fully charge it for 16 hours continuously. Step 1 Electrify the base. The handset is charged by the base.     LCD scroll. 3.3 Powering On To power on the HG536a, press the ON/OFF button on the side panel of the HG536a. After you power on the HG536a, the ADSL indicator blinks (for less than three minutes), which indicates that the HG536a is being activated.

    Using the Embedded PPP Dial-Up Software on the HG536a If you select this method for accessing the network, the HG536a starts to set up a dial-up connection automatically after the startup. You can access the network after you power on your computer. You do not need to install any special dial-up software on your computer or perform dial-up operations on your computer.

    If you select this method for accessing the network, you need to install and configure the dial-up software on your computer. In addition, you need to perform dial-up operations on your computer upon each startup. To configure the HG536a and your computer for the network access, do as follows: Step 1 Set the working mode of the HG536a to Bridge.

    4.2 Configuring the Wireless Network Connection The HG536a provides the WLAN function on a Local Area Network (LAN). If a wireless network adapter is installed on your computer, you can connect your computer to the HG536a through a wireless connection.

    Press the WPS button on the side panel of the HG536a within 120s. The WPS indicator of the HG536a becomes on from the blinking state, indicating that the HG536a is connected to your PC through the WLAN. This state lasts 300s. Then the WPS indicator turns off.

    If you forget the user name or password that has been changed, you can restore the default settings of the HG536a by pressing and holding the Reset button for over six seconds. Then, the user name and password that are used for logging in to the Web-based configuration utility are restored to default values.

    6.4 Registering a Handset You can register up to five handsets to your host. The HG536a assigns a name to each handset according to the registration order of the handsets. For example, the name assigned to the first handset that is registered is HS 1, and in standby mode, the name HS 1 is displayed on the LCD of that handset.

    6.6 Making a Call Making an External Call You can dial numbers with up to 32 digits. If the number has over 10 digits, the LCD automatically switches to a smaller font in order to accommodate the whole number. You can view the number you are dialing and modify it when necessary before dialing. To make an external call by dialing numbers, do as follows: Step 1 Enter a phone number in standby mode.

    7 FAQs How can I quickly enable or disable the wireless network function? Press and hold the WLAN button for over one second, and then release the button to enable or disable the wireless network function. The WLAN indicator shows whether the wireless network function is enabled.
