    Your phone Icons Icon Description Shows the received signal strength. The more the number of bars, the stronger the signal. Appears when a call is in progress. Appears when you are out of a service area. When it displays, you cannot make or receive calls.

Appears when your SIM card supports the Call diverting status indication and the Call diverting feature is activated.     Your phone Backlight The display and the keypad are illuminated by a backlight. When you press any key, the backlight illuminates. It turns off if you don’t press any key within a given period of time, depending on the Backlight menu option. For further details, see page 156.

    Your phone Sound mate With the sound mate, you can hear louder sounds. To use it, take off the cover and then connect the sound mate to the ear-microphone jack at the right side of the phone. After using the sound mate, put the cover on it. Built-in antenna Your phone has a built-in antenna.

    Getting started Inserting/Removing the SIM card When you subscribe to a cellular network, you are provided with a SIM card loaded with your subscription details, such as your PIN, any optional services available and so on. • Keep all miniature SIM cards out of the reach of small children.

    Your phone is powered by a rechargeable Li-ion battery. Use only approved batteries and chargers. Ask your local Samsung dealer for further details. Note: You must fully charge the battery before using your phone for the first time. A discharged standard battery is fully recharged in approximately 130 minutes.

    Entering Text The phone allows you to enter characters for messages and names in Chinese and English. To enter Chinese text, the phone provides several widely used pronunciation based (Pinyin) and character shape based (Stroke) input methods to meet the preferences of different users, allowing for greater convenience and ease of use.

    Entering Text Using Pinyin Mode Pinyin is a system to mark Chinese pronunciation in Latin alphabets. With the pinyin input method, you can enter Chinese characters by entering the pinyin string from the phone keypad and the phone automatically presents the matching alternatives. This mode allows you to enter Pinyin characters with only one key press per letter.

    Phonebook menu Phonebook offers the following features: • Phonebook: allows you to find, create or set up the speed-dialling feature and manage Phonebook entries. • Management: allows you to create or remove your own number, set up caller groups and check the memory status.

    Call records Via this menu, you can view the: • calls you missed, received or dialled. • cost of your calls. • length of your calls. Note: You can access the numbers in the three types of call records by pressing the key in Idle Mode.
