    One-touch(NFC) You can call up a desired application from the application menu of the camera by touching an NFC-enabled Android Smartphone to the camera. If the application you call up has a feature that works with the Smartphone, the camera and the Smartphone will be connected via Wi-Fi.

    Troubleshooting Wi-Fi/NFC Cannot find the wireless access point to be connected. • Wireless access points may not be displayed on the camera due to signal conditions. Place the camera closer to the wireless access point. • Wireless access points may not be displayed on the camera depending on the access point settings. Refer to the instruction manual of the wireless access point.

  • Page 37 When you turn or press the top/bottom/right/left parts of the control wheel following the on-screen display, you can select setting items. Your selection is determined when you press the center of the control wheel. The arrow means you can turn the control wheel.

    Soft keys The soft keys have different roles, depending on the context. The assigned role (function) of each soft key is shown on the screen.     Using functions in the menu Menu You can set up the basic settings for the camera as a whole, or execute functions such as shooting, playback, or other operations.     Shoot Mode (NEX-5R only) Allows you to select a shooting mode, such as exposure mode, panoramic, [Scene Selection]. Superior Auto Shoots images with a wider range of shooting functions than those of Intelligent Auto shooting. Recognizes and evaluates the shooting conditions automatically, performs Auto HDR, and chooses the best image.

    LCD Display (DISP) Changes the information to be displayed on the LCD screen. Finder Display(DISP) Changes the information to be displayed on an Electronic Viewfinder (sold separately for the NEX-5R). DISP Button(Monitor) Allows you to select the kind of information to be displayed on the LCD screen when you press the DISP button.

    Playback Allows you to set playback functions. Delete Deletes images. Still/Movie Select Allows you to determine how to group the playback images (View mode). Slide Show Plays back images automatically. View on Smartphone Transfers the images to a Smartphone and displays them. Send to Computer Transfers the images to a computer that is connected to the network for backup.
  • Page 46 Auto Review Sets the display time of the image right after shooting. Grid Line Turns on the grid line that helps you to adjust the composition of images. Peaking Level Enhances the outline of in-focus ranges with a selected color. Peaking Color Sets the color used for the peaking function.
  • Page 47 Main Settings Menu start Selects a first-displayed menu from the top menu or the last menu screen. Function Menu Settings Assigns functions to the Fn (Function) button. MOVIE Button Sets whether or not to activate the MOVIE button. Custom Key Settings Assigns functions to the soft key and the AEL button (AEL button is available for NEX-6 only).

    Shooting images Shooting images with the settings in effect when you bought the camera is explained here. The camera makes decisions appropriate to the situation, and adjusts the settings. 1 Adjust the LCD screen angle, and hold the camera. Or look through the viewfinder and hold the camera (NEX-6 only). The Scene Recognition function begins to work.

    Enlarged playback A portion of a still image can be enlarged during playback. This is convenient to check the focus condition of a recorded still image. You can enlarge playback images from the menu (page 125). 1 Display the image you want to enlarge, and then select (Enlarge Image).

    Deleting images You can delete the image displayed. 1 While displaying the image you want to delete, select (Delete). 2 Select OK. Select to quit the operation. (Delete) Notes • You cannot delete protected images. • Once you have deleted an image, you cannot restore it. Be sure that you want to delete the image before proceeding.

    Battery charging • Only NP-FW50 battery packs (and no others) can be charged. Batteries other than the specified kind may leak, overheat, or explode if you attempt to charge them, posing a risk of injury from electrocution and/or burn. • Remove the AC Adaptor from the wall outlet (wall socket) or disconnect the USB cable from the camera.

    Electronic Viewfinder (sold separately) (NEX-5R only) By attaching an Electronic Viewfinder (sold separately) to the Smart Accessory Terminal 2 of the camera, you can shoot images while looking through the Electronic Viewfinder. Turn the camera off when you attach or remove an Electronic Viewfinder. For details, refer to the operating instructions supplied with the Electronic Viewfinder.

    AVCHD format The AVCHD format is a high definition digital video camera format used to record a high definition (HD) signal of either the 1080i specification or the 720p specification using efficient data compression coding technology. The MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format is adopted to compress video data, and the Dolby Digital or Linear PCM system is used to compress audio data.
