Control Panel and Keys This section describes the keys you use on the control panel when sending and receiving faxes. FAX Key Switches standby display to Fax mode. Displays messages and In Use/Memory indicator prompts during operation. Also displays selections, Flashes green when a fax is being text, and numbers when received or sent.
One-Touch Speed Dialing Keys You can use the keys marked 01 to 12 to dial fax/telephone numbers that you pre-register. To dial using these keys, you need to register the number for one-touch speed dialing. When you press the [Function] key and the indicator lights green, you can use the following keys for the fax functions.
Using the Menus and Keys This machine has a menu system that you use to specify or register various settings. These settings allow you to customize the way your machine operates. This section provides a brief overview on how to use the control panel keys to open menus, make selections, and register data.

Directory Dialing Directory dialing allows you to look up a name you have registered in the machine and retrieve the number for dialing. This feature is convenient when you know the party’s name but cannot recall the one-touch speed dialing key or the code for speed dialing or group dialing where the number is registered.
Sending Method Memory Sending The machine begins calling the other party and transmitting the information after all documents are scanned into memory. Because the machine is multitasking, you can even scan a document into memory while performing other tasks. The machine has enough memory to store up to approximately 255 pages* (fewer if the document contains many graphics or particularly dense text).

Redialing When the Line Is Busy There are two methods of redialing: manual and automatic. Manual Redialing Press [Redial/Pause] to dial the last number you dialed with the numeric keys. (This starts redialing regardless of whether automatic redialing is enabled.) Canceling Manual Redialing To cancel manual redialing, press [Stop/Reset].
Canceling Automatic Redialing NOTE If you want to cancel a transmission while the machine is waiting to redial, you must delete the document from memory using <Memory Reference>. Overview of Receiving Modes The machine provides you with several modes for receiving faxes. Once you have decided which mode is suitable for your needs, set the mode as described in “Using the Fax Features,” in the Quick Start Guide. You can change the mode when the machine is in the Standby mode.

Receiving Documents Manually In the Manual mode, if you connect a telephone to your machine, you can receive voice calls as well as manually receive faxes. You can activate reception from the machine or from the telephone connected to the machine (this is called “Remote Receiving”).

Printing a Received Document in the Correct Page Order The machine automatically collates your received fax documents in page order. However, if you set <PRINT IN ORDER> to ‘OFF’, received faxes are printed in the reverse page order. (See “Printer Settings,” on p. 6-11.) Special Dialing Features This section explains special dialing features, such as dialing through a switchboard, dialing an overseas number, and switching temporarily to tone dialing. Memory Features Receiving Documents into Memory Receiving While Performing Other Tasks Because the machine is a multitasking device, it can receive faxes and voice calls while you are performing other tasks. If you receive a fax while you are performing other tasks, the machine stores the incoming fax in memory, then prints it as soon as you finish your task.
Resending a Document from Memory You can resend documents that are stored in memory. All transmissions are conducted with ECM if the other party’s fax supports ECM (default). ECM is turned off. 2.PAUSE TIME Sets the length of the pause you insert into a dialing sequence.
RX Settings This submenu allows you to specify reception functions. Setting Item Description 1.ECM RX ECM (Error Correction Mode) receiving is turned on or off. All receptions are conducted with ECM if the other party’s fax supports ECM (default). ECM is turned off. 2.FAX/TEL OPT.SET When FaxTel has been set, optional settings are available.
Setting Item Description 5.MAN/AUTO SWITCH Sets the machine to switch to the document receive mode after ringing for a specified length of time in the manual receive mode. The machine keeps ringing until someone answers the call manually with the handset or a connected extension telephone (default).

If Trouble Occurs If an error occurs during faxing or receiving, check the following points. Sending Documents You cannot send a fax. Cause 1 The machine may have overheated. Remedy Disconnect the machine, and let it cool for about 10 minutes. Reconnect the machine and try sending again.

Cause 9 The telephone line may not be working properly. Remedy Make sure there is a dial tone when you lift the handset of the telephone connected to the machine. If there is no dial tone, contact your local telephone company. Cause 10 The receiving fax machine may not be a G3 fax machine.
Receiving Documents Cannot receive a fax automatically. Cause 1 The machine may not be set to receive automatically. Remedy For the machine to receive faxes automatically, the receive mode must be set to <FaxTel>, <FaxOnly>, <AnsMode>, or <DRPD>. If you have set <AnsMode>, confirm that an answering machine is connected to the machine, and that it is turned on with a properly recorded outgoing message.

Using the Telephone You cannot dial. Cause 1 The telephone line may not be connected properly. Remedy Make sure that all line connections are secure.
