Use the interface port-channel global configuration command to access or create the port-channel
logical interface for Layer 3 routed interfaces. Use the no form of this command to remove the
port-channel.

Usage Guidelines
For Layer 2 EtherChannels, you must configure the channel-group interface configuration command,
which automatically creates the port-channel logical interface. You cannot put Layer 2 interfaces into a
manually created port-channel interface.
You create Layer 3 port channels by using the interface port-channel command. You must manually
configure the port-channel logical interface before putting the interface into the channel group.
Only one port channel in a channel group is allowed.
When using a port-channel interface as a routed interface, do not assign Layer 3 addresses on the

physical interfaces that are assigned to the channel group.
Caution
Do not assign bridge groups on the physical interfaces in a channel group used as a Layer 3 port-channel
interface because it creates loops. You must also disable spanning tree.
Follow these guidelines when you use the interface port-channel command:

Port-channel number. The range is 1 to 64.
Modification
This command was first introduced.
If you configure Inter-Switch Link (ISL), you must assign the IP address to the switch virtual
interface (SVI).
If you want to use the CDP, you must configure it only on the physical interface and not on the
port-channel interface.
