procedures. Follow the steps provided in the
software documentation before continuing to step 2.
2. Remove the FC cables from the GBIC.
3. Remove the failed GBIC from the GBIC port on the
back of the ESM board.

4. Unpack the new GBIC.
Note
Place the new GBIC on a dry, level surface near
the expansion unit and away from magnetic
fields. Save all packing materials in case you
need to return the GBIC.
5. Read the documentation that came with the new
GBIC for replacement procedures and other
information.
6. Insert the new GBIC into the GBIC port on the ESM
board.
7. Insert the FC cables into the new GBIC.
8. Check the Bypass indicator next to the failed GBIC:
If the Bypass indicator is lit, the GBIC might not
be inserted correctly.
If the Bypass indicator remains lit, or a Fault
indicator on the ESM board comes on, refer to
"Symptom-to-FRU Index" on page 71.
9. Replace or close the back access panel, if necessary.
