  • Page 5 Electrical voltage and current from power, telephone, and communication cables are hazardous. To avoid a shock hazard: If IBM supplied the power cord(s), connect power to this unit only with the IBM provided power cord. Do not use the IBM provided power cord for any other product. Installing a rack-based server Use this information to learn about installing a rack-based server. Prerequisite for installing the rack-mounted server Use the information to understand the prerequisites that are required for installing the server.

Determining and marking the location in the rack You might need to determine where to install the system unit into the rack.

  • Page 18 5. Facing the front of the rack and working from the right side of the rack, use tape, a marker, or pencil to mark the top hole of the highest EIA unit. Next, mark the lowest hole on the EIA unit directly below this EIA unit. 4  Power Systems: Installing the IBM Power S1012 (9028-21B)

The rail pins (3) and (4) will extend through the rack flange and, in later steps, you will install a screw into each threaded hole on the rail (5) and (6).   • Page 37 Cabling the server and accessing Operations Console You can use Operations Console to manage a server that is running the IBM i operating system even if you do not have logical partitions. Before you begin You can access the Operations Console via a LAN connection to IBM i by using IBM i Access Client Solutions (http://www-01.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=isg3T1026805).
  • Page 38 Operations Console. The system might take 20 - 30 minutes to complete this action. If A6005008 is displayed on the control panel, this means that no Operations Console is available. This might indicate that the system is not preinstalled with IBM i and you must set the console type to LAN.
