Chapter 5. Installing a new operating system
Before you install the operating system see the "Installing a new operating
system" section of Access Help, and make sure that you do the following:
v Print the sections of Access Help you will be using. Go to the section for
the operating system you are using.
v Copy all the subdirectories and files in the C:\IBMTOOLS or the
C:\SWTOOLS directory to a removable storage device, because you will
need them during the installation.
Installing Windows XP
If you are installing Windows XP Service Pack 1 on a computer with a
dual-core processor, disable Core Multi-Processing before starting the
installation as follows:
1. Start the BIOS Setup Utility.
2. Select Config. The Config submenu opens.
3. Select CPU. The CPU submenu opens.
4. For Core Multi-Processing, select Disabled.
5. Press F10.
To install Windows XP and its related software on your computer, do as
follows:
Before installing the operating system, install Intel
Driver, as follows:
Be sure to install Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver before installing
the operating system. Otherwise your computer will not respond; it will
only display a blue screen.
1. Attach a diskette drive to your computer.
2. Copy Intel Matrix Storage Manager Driver from C:\IBMTOOLS\
3. To make sure that SATA AHCI is enabled, start the BIOS Setup Utility
4. Select Config.
5. Select Serial ATA (SATA). Select AHCI.
